Lemn Sissay: An Evening of Poetry and Conversation

The bestselling poet Lemn Sissay celebrates the publication of his latest collection with an evening of readings and discussion at Foyles Charing Cross Road.

For the past decade, Lemn Sissay has composed a short poem as dawn breaks each morning. Life-affirming, witty and full of wonder, these poems chronicle his own battle with the darkness and are fuelled with resilience and defiant joy. Let the Light Pour In is a collection of the best of these poems, and a book celebrating his morning practice.

Lemn Sissay is a BAFTA-nominated, award-winning writer and broadcaster. He has authored collections of poetry and plays, as well as his bestselling memoir My Name is Why. His verse has appeared widely across Radio 4, BBC TV and broadsheet media, and his Landmark poems are visible in London, Manchester, Huddersfield and Addias Ababa. He received the PEN Pinter Prize in 2019, and this year he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London.

This event will feature an interview with Lemn, and readings of several of the poems featured in the collection. This event will be hosted by Selam Amare. Amare is a comedian, and the founder of the music and poetry night Azmari Bet.

Doors will open from 6:45pm.
