Gospel Sundays: The Amazing Grace Show – An Inspirational Journey Through The Birth Of Gospel Music

Get ready to be uplifted by the soul-stirring songs and narrative of Gospel Sundays: The Amazing Grace Show residency at Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club in Kennington, South London on Sunday 24th Sept, Sunday 29th Oct and Sunday 10th Dec

Presented by Spotlight Live, this unforgettable experience explores how African slaves in America singing spirituals, a form of work song, to send messages, to boost spirits and to seek comfort in God, fostered the Birth of Gospel Music.

Aligned with Black History Month, The Amazing Grace Show spans gospel, ragtime and blues as it takes audiences on a cultural, spiritual, and musical journey through life on the plantations in America’s Deep South and the unwavering desire for liberation.

The Amazing Grace Show serves as a poignant tribute to an enduring spirit. Through heartfelt performances and a historical narrative, it delivers a unique opportunity for audiences to further their understanding of the African-American experience and its lasting impact on music, culture and society.

Gospel music inspired Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin and Johnny Cash through to Nick Cave, OutKast and Lauryn Hill, a contemporary edge reflected in The Amazing Grace Show’s singers and players who have worked with the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Stormzy, Mariah Carey, Madonna and Primal Scream.

Ovie Okenarhe, promoter of the show, said: “It is essential to honour and remember the origins of gospel music, which represents the triumph of the human spirit. In step with Black History Month and Gospel Heritage Month, The Amazing Grace Show is as educational as it is entertaining, highlighting the roots of the genre and its role in shaping history.”

Gospel Sundays: The Amazing Grace Show will be live at the Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, an intimate, renowned London venue where attendees can expect an unforgettable experience that combines powerful storytelling with exceptional musical talent.
