Psychological impact of slavery – Dr Michelle Yaa Asantewa

Tuesday 20th October

The system of slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade provided European nations with immense economic wealth. In contrast, slavery resulted in the social, cultural, psychological and economic devastation of African nations.

This presentation explores some of the lasting psychological effects of the 500 years of slavery. Dr Asantewa highlights how African people, both on the continent and the diaspora, continue to struggle for self-determination and sense of self worth, and reflects on the value of human progress and development.

She is an educator, author and poet and has recently started her own publishing house. www.waywivewordz.com
