In the nineteenth century Black people came to London from all over the world. They were entertainers, artists’ models, nurses, musicians, footballers – all and more came here for different reasons. Dr Chater is the author of the book Untold Histories: Black people in England and Wales during the period of the British slave trade, c1660-1807. She worked for the BBC until 1994 and then became a writer of books and articles on aspects of history and also as a trainer in research skills for the media and for family historians.
