Peter Edwards talks about his career in music, his life as a jazz pianist, his compositions, the new CD by the Peter Edwards Trio released in June 2016, and the music that’s influenced him.
A masters graduate of the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, Peter Edwards has gone on to become a pianist for the late trumpeter Abram Wilson and the vocalists Zara McFarlane and Nicola Emmanuelle; he is leader of his own band which has appeared at Ronnie Scott’s and the Pizza Express Jazz Club (Soho); he is conductor of the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and the Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth Jazz Orchestra at London’s Southbank Centre; he was the 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Awards ‘Newcomer of the Year’; he has been commissioned to write a new piece for the Nu Civilisation Orchestra by the PRS for Music Foundation for the New Music Biennial in 2017; and he is also an arranger, educator and collaborator.
