October 2017 is the 30th anniversary of Black History Month in the UK and 20 years of Black History awareness in Stockport. To mark this momentous occasion Creative Support are presenting stories of the people we support and, to coincide with World Mental Health day on Tuesday 10th October, will also be discussing their experiences and the stigmas associated with having mental health needs in different communities.
The exhibition will launch on Tuesday 10th October, 10am – 5pm at Marketplace Studios, 19 Market Place, Stockport, SK1 1EU. The exhibition will be open Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays 10am – 4pm until Saturday 28th September.
This exhibition will deliver stories of the individuals we support in an audio and visual way, you will be presented with large images of these individuals and then be able to listen to their stories privately through the use of headsets. Topics discussed in these stories includes:
- Roots and heritage with a focus on black history
- Experiences with racism
- Mental health and the stigmas attached in different communities
