Celebrate UK Black history-create art through conversation with Alvin Kofi

Sunday 23 March

Discover historical icons Dr Harold Moody and Una Marson through art. Draw alongside Alvin Kofi Sky Arts finalist and Sky Arts Guest Tutor.

Acclaimed Artist and Portrait Painter Alvin Kofi is coming to Peckham! They Did I Can Too is offering budding artists the opportunity to enjoy this in person experience. Delve into Southwark’s rich minority ethnic history and draw historical icons Dr Harold Moody or Una Marson, through conversation, alongside Alvin Kofi. Materials will be provided however if preferred participant/artists are welcome to bring their own drawing materials (no paints please). During the sessions we’ll learn interesting facts about these two pioneering icons and their immense contribution to the UK and beyond.

The sessions are open to ALL abilities, are FREE and will take place at Mountview Academy of Arts 120 Peckham Hill Street London SE15 5JT (the building behind Peckham Library).

Kofi will give advice to participant/artist for a short time at the end of the session – not during – as he’ll be focused on the curated conversation, and on producing the two drawings of our icons. Please note that the artwork produced will be kept by the project so when registering for the experience to draw alongside Kofi please do so with this understanding. There will be an exhibition showcasing the artwork to the wider community at a later date.

If you love art but do not want to participate in the drawing experience, we’re offering a unique alternative – the chance to observe the creativity unfold as an audience member.
