Shirley May’s She Wrote Her Own Eulogy discusses her family’s Jamaican heritage
and the Black-British experience. Her emotional work takes the reader on a journey
through the landscapes of Kent and Manchester, via Jamaica. She explores themes
of community, memory, hope and the future.
Shirley will read from her work, followed by audience Q & A and book signing.

Biography
Shirley May is the director of Young Identity. Young Identity is a writing collective
which works with 13–25s. Her own work has been published in several anthologies.
She has performed at many well-known venues in the UK and abroad.
