Unbraiding Legacy Poetry Workshop: Inspiring Black Women of History

Sat, 20 March 2021 14:00 – 16:30 GMT

A poetry-writing workshop for women & girls reflecting on inspiring Black women of history, led by the poets of ::nana:: collective.

A poetry-writing workshop for women & girls reflecting on inspiring Black women who have impacted our lives or changed the world, led by the poets of ::nana:: collective.

From Nana Asma’u to Nina Simone, we are celebrating the artistry, scholarship and activism of Black women by writing new poems. How do we unbraid their histories, honour their stories and reflect on their legacies? Hear from Saraiya Bah, Sukina Pilgrim, Muneera Pilgrim and Rakaya Fetuga and find your poetic voice through a series of writing exercises.

This Women’s History Month, join us online with a pen, paper (or a blank Word doc!) and the name of one Black woman who has inspired you, whether she is known to the world or known by only a few.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to perform at the Unbraiding Legacy Spoken Word Night alongside ::nana:: collective.

As spaces are limited, this free workshop event is exclusively for women, however the Unbraiding Legacy Spoken Word Night is open to all. To confirm your place on the workshop please respond to the questions in the confirmation email.
