Tony Allen: A Retrospective

Saturday 13 November 2021

Celebrate the legendary Afrobeat drummer’s life and music at an electrifying show curated by Damon Albarn, Remi Kabaka, Femi Koleoso and Ben Okri.

Last year, Tony Allen, who powered Fela Kuti’s greatest bands, passed away at the age of 79, leaving behind an extraordinary body of work.

He was working on music right up until the end and had been prepping a new album, There Is No End.

Working with a younger generation of artists, particularly rappers, Allen had laid down tracks for There Is No End with Skepta and Sampa the Great, among others.

In a star-studded and spectacular celebration of the artist’s work, long-term collaborator Damon Albarn comes together with Afro-rock percussionist and Gorillaz member Remi Kabaka, drummer and new Gorillaz member Femi Koleoso, and writer Ben Okri.

The group curates and performs with an electrifying line-up to bring this show to the EFG London Jazz Festival.
