Randall Goosby in Recital

Friday 13th October

Inspiring music by three great Black composers and their contemporaries are at the heart of this thrilling programme from two fast-rising superstar performers.

The exciting young violinist Randall Goosby and the award-winning pianist Zhu Wang present a programme centring on works by three Black composers whose works are enjoying a long-overdue resurgence of interest.

First there’s Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, who was championed by Elgar and Stanford in the late 19th century, with his early Suite all about charm and lyricism.

His favourite composer was Dvořák, and the Sonatina shows the Czech composer at his most intimate.

Next comes the engaging Suite by William Grant Still and, after the interval, his colleague Florence Price, who is represented by two rhapsodic Fantasies.

The concert closes with the effusively romantic Violin Sonata by Richard Strauss.
