Julianknxx & Friends featuring Kwaye

15 Sep 2019

Julianknxx hosts an evening of talks exploring questions of diasporan identity, interspersed with poetry readings and stripped-down music sets with Kwaye and another soon-to-be announced guest.

Drawing from julianknxx’s network of musicians, fashion designers and other creatives, the event places African diasporan artists in conversation with each other, centring the contributions of African immigrants to London life.

julianknxx & Friends is a living archive of Black British experience, exploring topics that encompass finding and communicating your voice as an artist to navigating the multiplicity of cultures held as Africans in the diaspora.

Julianknxx is an interdisciplinary poet, broadening the boundaries and often presenting his work through installations, encompassing written word, music and visual art.

After debuting his poetry collection in sold-out performance in 2018, Knox returns to Southbank Centre presenting julianknxx & Friends, an intimate evening of conversation and performances with poets, musicians, designers and others – centering African immigrants contributions to the literature and arts scenes.

Kwayedza Kureya (KWAYE) is a Zimbabwean-born singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist, whose heritage and sense of style extends seamlessly into his work, debuting Solar in 2017. Making a conscious effort to explore the emotional depth of human experiences and erase the margins of black masculinity, KWAYE is a new kind of artist.
