The BBC Concert Orchestra returns with a full symphonic tribute to the life, work and genius of John Coltrane – arranged and curated by Carlos Simon.
John Coltrane… need we say more? The creator of Blue Train, Giant Steps and A Love Supreme might just be the single greatest creative genius in modern jazz: a figure whose musical legacy is revered by many, and acknowledged by all.
Now, his spirit rides again. Coltrane: Legacy for Orchestra is a new live concert experience reframing some of his greatest works with original orchestrations by genre-defying American composer Carlos Simon.
Endorsed by the Coltrane Estate and accompanied by exclusive and recently exhibited personal photographs of Coltrane, this performance at the EFG London Jazz Festival 2024 stars fast-rising trumpeter Giveton Gelin as well as the full BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Edwin Outwater.
Together, they’ll take you on a musical journey through Coltrane’s work, from the 1950s through to the late 60s. For one night only, the legend lives.
