Windrush Day: Hostile documentary

Wednesday 21 June

The documentary will start at 4pm and conclude at 5:37pm. Panel discussion is from 6-6:45pm and will be followed by Caribbean refreshments

This year we are proudly celebrating Windrush 75 with viewings of Sonita Gale’s powerful and well-crafted BAFTA-longlisted documentary Hostile which tells the stories of Windrush migrants and sheds a light on the barriers and challenges faced by migrants living in the UK.

The film exposes the impact of the UK’s ‘hostile environment’ — a term used by the government in 2012 to illustrate the atmosphere they wanted to create for migrants in the UK, with the intention of provoking them to leave the country of their own accord.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Sonita Gale and Patrick Vernon OBE. Patrick led a successful campaign for 22 June to be recognised annually as Windrush Day, which was officially backed by the British government in 2018.
