Sep. 30 Police And The Criminalising Of British African Youths By Numbers. Guest Speaker: Black Lives Matter activist and academic Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper

This event marks Mangrove Nine @ 51 and is in solidarity with all who were victims of the police’s misuse of the sus law powers.

History consultant Kwaku leads with a video mash up presentation that highlights little-known and cause célèbre cases involving the police, the criminal justice system and groups of criminalised African youths, such as Cricklewood 12, Oval House 4, Tottenham Court Road Two, Stockwell Six, Oval Four, Mangrove Nine, Waterloo Four, Thornton Heath 15 and Bonfire Night 12.
Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper, a young Black Lives Matter activist and academic whose research interests include policing and anti-racism, provides a summary of key points from the video. Dr Elliott-Cooper, who is a board member of The Monitoring Group, then speaks to his experience in dealing with youths and the police, and his book ‘Black Resistance To British Policing’. Followed by a discussion moderated by community activist Nana Asante.

In solidarity with all who have been victims of the police’s misuse of the sus law.
