Lecture Series October: A Conversation with Sir Geoff Palmer

Thursday 5 October

A conversation with Sir Geoff Palmer about Edinburgh’s historical links to the Caribbean.

Scotland’s historical links with the Caribbean are extensive and can be seen in Scottish street names such as Jamaica Street; the name Gladstone itself has links with the Caribbean. Many people from the Caribbean have Scottish surnames because around 30% of Caribbean slave plantations were owned by Scots.

Sir Geoff Palmer became the first Black professor in Scotland in 1989, and is a prominent figure in Scottish education, human rights activism, and anti-racism campaigning. Join us on this edition of our lecture series to have a conversation with Sir Geoff exploring Edinburgh’s historical links to the Caribbean.

Tea and coffee refreshments included in ticket price.
