A modern-day cinematic representation of how Afro-Portuguese identities influence the vibrant music scenes of Lisbon.
Lisbon-born, London-based DJ Rita Maia and cinematographer Vasco Viana share insights into a vibrant community of musicians and producers from Afro-Portuguese backgrounds living in Lisbon, each with their own unique relationship to this complex city.
From Angola to São Tomé, Cabo Verde to Guinea Bissau, this phenomenal portrait connects audiences to the past and present influences of Afro-Portuguese identities in Lisbon’s music scenes, across generations of artists. Through sharing these stories, the film opens up an important discussion on Afro-Portuguese cultural contributions, and how music can shape a community to understand who they are and who they want to be.

From 17 May (and unless guidance changes) six people or two households of any size can visit together as a group. Until guidance changes, we’ve created socially-distanced seating clusters. Please only sit directly beside someone from your household or support bubble, and avoid moving seats when you arrive, so we can keep a safe distance between you and other groups.
