Jamael Dean & Sharada Shashidahr Quartet

Sunday 7 November 2021

A Sunday showdown of three cutting edge acts crossing jazz and hip-hop and spiritual music.

Hailing from the Los Angeles jazz circles are jazz prodigies Jamael Dean and Sharada Shashidhar. Jamael, the grandson of legendary soul jazz drummer Donald Dean, has toured with Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño. Jamael’s music reflects the dual influence of his Los Angeles contemporaries and jazz ancestors. His works also include beats and production, like for Sharada’s debut album Rahu.

Sharada Shashidhar’s soulful voice takes inspiration from jazz and Indian classical music, that influences her songwriting and productions. Her elaborate harmonies and vocal creativity come together in a new beat-orientated spiritual jazz.

Ill Considered are Leon Brichard (bass), Idris Rahman (saxophone) and Emre Ramazanoglu (drums/percussion). With their forthcoming 2021 album released in early November expect ‘wild, outrageously energetic, touching, subtly dynamic, and surprisingly coherent…Wonky, mad, intense vibes at the cutting edge of contemporary UK improvised music.’ Bandcamp

Eglo Records boss and bastion of good music and culture in the capital, Alexander Nut warms up the show in the booth.
