Corinne Bailey Rae presents Black Rainbows

Sunday 27 April

Get ready for an unforgettable evening of music and artistry as the Roundhouse Three Sixty festival proudly welcomes Corinne Bailey Rae to its visionary program.

The iconic singer-songwriter will present her Mercury Prize-nominated album Black Rainbows in an exclusive one-night-only performance, reimagined with the acclaimed Guildhall Session Orchestra.

A unique musical collaboration, this special show will see Black Rainbows come to life in a completely new format. Interpreted by the dynamic Guildhall Session Orchestra—an ensemble of exceptional alumni from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama—the performance promises to be a stunning fusion of genres and creativity. Since its formation in 2019, the Guildhall Session Orchestra has been pushing boundaries, collaborating with celebrated artists, and redefining what orchestral music can be. Current Guildhall students will also contribute to the event, crafting bespoke arrangements that embody the festival’s ethos of supporting young talent.

About Corinne Bailey Rae

Corinne Bailey Rae first captured the world’s attention with her 2006 hit “Put Your Records On” and became the fourth British female artist to debut at number one on the charts. A double GRAMMY and MOBO Award winner, Bailey Rae has also been nominated for prestigious honors including the Mercury Prize, BRIT Awards, and an Ivor Novello.

Her latest album, Black Rainbows (2023), marks a bold departure from her earlier work. Inspired by the Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago—a groundbreaking “cathedral of Black art”—the album explores themes of Black femininity, ancestral power, and transcendence through an experimental, genre-defying sound. This transformative record has solidified Bailey Rae’s reputation as an artist unafraid to take risks and break new creative ground.

About Guildhall Session Orchestra

The Guildhall Session Orchestra, formed in 2019, is a professional cross-genre ensemble of Guildhall School alumni, renowned for groundbreaking collaborations with artists like Speakers Corner Quartet and Aoife O’Donovan. Known for innovative projects such as OrchestRAVE and award-winning OrchestRAM, the orchestra has also contributed to acclaimed recordings, including Joyce DiDonato’s Seeds of Hope. Led by Founder Mike Roberts, Principal Conductor Peter Longworth, and Senior Producer Barbara De Biasi, the ensemble continues to redefine the boundaries of orchestral music.

This event is a part of Roundhouse Three Sixty, a brand new festival of music and culture across the month of April. Click here to discover the full programme.
