Angel Bat Dawid is a Black American composer, improviser, clarinettist, pianist, vocalist, educator and DJ.
A mainstay of the Chicago free jazz scene, her critically acclaimed debut album The Oracle – released by pioneeering label International Anthem and recorded using only her cell phone in various locations – was hailed as one of the albums of 2019 by the likes of Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and The Guardian.
As an educator, Angel teaches her “Great Black Music” course at Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center through Old Town School of Folk and is clarinettist in Damon Locks Black Monument Ensemble as well as host of a monthly music show on NTS Radio.
All of this and more is why Pitchfork recently highlighted Angel‘s work in their “Pitchfork 25 Next” cover story and included her on their list of artists shaping the future of music.
