David Austin Grey, Ashley Allen, Piera Onarko and Stella Roberts will perform across consecutive Friday’s from Friday 9 October as part of a series titled “Jamie Cullum recommends”. Each concert will be free to attend but tickets must be booked in advance in order to secure entry.
The Korean term ‘Hansu’ means ‘water‘. “A drop of water gathering to make an ocean”. Specifically Hansu represents strength, flexibility, harmony and water as the source of life. ‘Tori’ is the Japanese word for ‘bird‘. It can be thought to represent freedom and grace. Hansu-Tori focus on original music written by pianist and band leader David Austin Grey. Hansu-Tori have garnered huge amounts of praise from fans many key figures within the arts, with the band’s music being featured by BBC Radio 3, BBC Scotland, BBC Introducing WM, Jazz FM. Jazzwise Magazine and The Observer.
David Austin Grey is a UK based pianist, composer and educator working across multiple musical disciplines. He has worked throughout the UK and performed internationally including residencies in Brazil and South Asia.
A graduate of The University of Birmingham and Birmingham Conservatoire; David has worked with such well-respected artists and institutions as Birmingham Royal Ballet, British Council, Courtney Pine, Eliza Shaddad, Soweto Kinch, Michael League, Black Voices and Snarky Puppy. He has also supported GRAMMY-winning artists Marcus Miller, Terri-Lyne Carrington and Snarky Puppy. In 2018 David was awarded a place on Sound and Music’s national ‘New Voices’ program.
