The Story of Britain’s Black Nurses

Join us at The London Archives as children’s author Kandace Chimbiri talks us through the fascinating history of Britain’s Black nurses.

From ancient and medieval Africa, through colonization and enslavement, through wars, times of great change and onwards to the creation of the NHS and beyond, the story of nursing has always also been the story of Britain’s Black nurses. This story includes many incredible nurses from around the world: talented, skilful, innovative, hardworking, resilient. Additionally, Kandace will discuss the research conducted for ‘The Story of Britain’s Black Nurses’.

At this event, Kandace will also talk about introducing forgotten history to children and how to encourage them to research.

The Story of Britain’s Black Nurses is the perfect resource for classrooms and school projects, full of fascinating detail for young readers and revealing the rich history and importance of our UK health service.
