HOSB Presents: Busy Being Black

Wednesday 21 February

Live recording featuring Busy Being Black’s Josh Rivers in conversation with Otamere Guobadia discussing queer love, art, and poetry.

Otamere Guobadia’s debut – Unutterable Visions, Perishable Breath – is a gorgeous collection of writings that embody poetic sequences and fragmented poetry as queer forms. In a live recording of the award-winning podcast Busy Being Black, hosted within the Chapel at House of St Barnabas, Josh Rivers and Otamere Guobadia bring to life a conversation that explores the intimacies, vanities, and vulnerabilities of queer love in the 21st-century, art as rebellion and resistance, and poetry as a tool for unearthing the truths of our time.

Josh Rivers is the creator and host of the award-winning podcast Busy Being Black, a social justice communications professional, and a public speaker. All of his work is a testament to his commitment to being an advocate for and amplifier of communities and perspectives so often overlooked and underrepresented.

Otamere Guobadia is a multidisciplinary writer, poet, and columnist whose work focuses on desire, art, adornment, queerness, and agency, within cultures high, low, and popular. His work has appeared in British Vogue, i-D, Dazed, GQ, The Guardian, Vogue Italia, Wonderland, The BBC, The Independent, and AnOther Magazine, among other publications. His first book, Unutterable Visions, Perishable Breath, was released on January 4, 2024.

House of St Barnabas is London’s only charity members club, on a mission to break the cycle of homelessness. We champion diversity and togetherness and hope to build a uniquely inclusive community in London for all.
