Mannington Book Bash: David Olusoga

Sunday 8th October

Speaker: David Olusoga

It seems fitting that in a house as steeped in history as Mannington Hall — still owned by a family steeped in English history, The Walpoles) — that we should have have a historian speaking at the festival.

Even better is to have a historian who has blown apart the tired, single narrative story of Britain so many of us grew up with — and exposed the rich, fascinating, joyous and often troubling history of black people in these islands.

David Olusoga’s books and TV shows have continued a vital tradition of telling the truth about our relationship with slavery and how its appalling legacy helped build the prosperous country we now live in — and brought the conversation to a far wider audience. His work gives us the chance to reflect on a history that belongs to all of us who call ourselves British today. His new book Black History for Everyday of the Year will have just been published when he comes to Mannington.

David will be delivering a lecture on the themes of his new work, taking questions from the audience, and signing books.
