Michael Rosen in Conversation with Jordan Stephens

Thursday 18th May

In Getting Better, the beloved author and poet shares his story and the lessons he learned along the way, investigating the road to recovery and asking how we can find it within ourselves to live well again after, or even during, the darkest times of our lives.

Michael has grieved the loss of a child, lived with debilitating chronic illness, and faced death itself when seriously unwell in hospital with Covid. Despite this, he has survived and even learned to find joy in life in the aftermath of tragedy.

‘We talk of stress and strain. They’re good words. They suggest that we’re like steel girders which can take weight and twist – but only to a point.’

Michael Rosen is one of the most popular contemporary poets and authors of books for children. His titles include We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, winner of the Smarties Book Prize, Sad Book and Totally Wonderful Miss Plumberry. The presenter of Word of Mouth on BBC Radio 4, he received the Eleanor Farjeon Award for Services to Children’s Literature in 1997.

Jordan is best known as one half of hip hop duo, Rizzle Kicks. Jordan is also an accomplished screen actor, producer, activist and writer. Most recently Jordan has released his first children’s picture book, The Missing Piece, through Bloomsbury Publishing.
