Pitzhanger Perspectives is an ongoing series of conversations with contemporary thinkers and creatives.

Southall-born British actor, playwright, director and broadcaster Kwame Kwei-Armah will be in conversation with Sharon Walters, a London-based artist who also grew up in Southall. Kwame will be discussing his life and work, including growing up in west London and how Ealing has influenced him creatively.

Kwame Kwei-Armah was made Artistic Director of the Young Vic in 2018, where he has directed Twelfth Night and Tree. From 2011 to 2018 Kwame was previously the Artistic Director of Baltimore Center Stage where he directed: Jazz, Marley, One Night in Miami, Amadeus, Dance of the Holy Ghosts, The Mountaintop, An Enemy of the People, The Whipping Man and Things of Dry Hours. He was awarded an OBE for Services to Drama in 2012.

Sharon Walters was recently commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to create a collage work featuring political reformers and prominent race equality campaigners, Eric and Jessica Huntley, a powerful legacy to a couple Sharon first encountered by attending their Southall-based Saturday school during her childhood. Her current series ‘Seeing Ourselves’ is a multi-disciplinary project across papercuts, collage works, a podcast series and collaborative events celebrating black women, their histories and futures.

Pitzhanger Perspectives Sir John Soane used Pitzhanger Manor to entertain his wide circle of friends, celebrities and potential clients, bringing together opera singers and politicians, academics and poets at eclectic dinners. Inspired by this spirit of Pitzhanger as a forum for interesting encounters and enlightening debate, Pitzhanger Perspectives is an ongoing series of conversations with contemporary thinkers and creatives.

• Ticket includes access to Anthony Caro: The Inspiration of Architecture and Pitzhanger Manor from 5 pm.
• The talk will begin promptly at 6.30 pm and is expected to last one hour, including questions.
• Advance booking is recommended to guarantee spaces.
• Spaces will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
