Why is Africa still perceived as a country when there are around 2,000 languages spoken on the continent alone?
Chinny Ukata and Astrid Madimba have created a podcast and book to counter the misconception that Africa is a country by breaking down this vast, beautiful and complex continent into regions and countries. Each of the 54 African countries has a unique history and culture and Chinny and Astrid will highlight the key historical moments that have shaped each nation and contributed to its global position, as well as within the African continent.

Chinny Ukata: Chinny identifies as British-Nigerian. She was born in the UK and spent her formative years in Southend-On-Sea, Essex. She enjoyed history at school, however, a lot of the content taught only scratched the surface when it came to black history. Chinny’s discontent with why she was only just continuing to ‘discover’ Britain’s involvement in Biafra and other foreign policy issues in Africa led her to agree to form It’s a Continent podcast with her co-host and friend, Astrid.
Astrid Madimba: Astrid was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and grew up in the UK. She identifies as British and Congolese but has struggled with connecting to her African heritage, having lived in the UK most of her life. Astrid’s search for a greater connection to her African heritage led to the formation of It’s a Continent. This podcast seeks to support others in their search for a better understanding of African history.
