Dave Okumu & Special Guests: Pull Up To The Bumper

Tuesday 14th June

The Invisible’s Dave Okumu is joined by an all-star band to pay homage to and reimagine two iconic records: Nightclubbing by Grace Jones and Echoes by Wally Badarou.

Okumu has had the pleasure of working with Grace Jones on her new album, whilst crediting her as being a major influence on himself and his career.

Without Grace Jones there would simply be no Dave Okumu, and Nightclubbing has a big part to play in this.

Badarou is a frequent Grace Jones collaborator and one of the great unsung Black musicians of our times, having worked with the likes of Sly & Robbie, Herbie Hancock and Talking Heads – Okumu credits Echoes as one of the most underrated masterpieces in his collection.

Okumu is joined by Hot Chip and The Invisible member Leo Taylor on drums, fellow Invisible member and Mercury nominee Tom Herbert on bass, pianist Nick Ramm, Raven Bush on the violin and electronics, Robert Stillman on the saxophone and Aviram Barath on keyboard and electronics.

Born in Vienna to Kenyan parents, and ultimately settling in London via Edinburgh and Paris, Okumu grew up surrounded by music enthusiasts.

Okumu is best known for fronting The Invisible, whose eponymous debut was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 2009 and was also selected by iTunes UK editorial team as iTunes album of the year.

Okumu has also collaborated, performed or recorded with a huge range of artists, including Jessie Ware, Grace Jones, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Kwabs, Yoko Ono, Paul Epworth and Ghostpoet.
