Jazzanova Live: Strata Records Reimagined

Saturday 23th April

Legendary selector and music historian DJ Amir partners with iconic label BBE and ever-excelling Berlin jazz connoisseurs Jazzanova for the first live show of the forthcoming Strata Records retrospective.

A first chance to catch the full 9-piece band playing the forthcoming album live with an Amir DJ set plus special guests.

“If there were no labels like Strata, techno music wouldn’t exist!” – Theo Parrish

“Strata: The Gate opener to independence and freedom in music” – Gilles Peterson

“Strata was about self-determination, getting their own music out there, and helping local Detroiters accomplish their goals” – Barbara Cox (owner of strata)

Detroit’s Strata was originally founded as a community organization that ran food drives and jazz programmes. Despite a short-lived existence of just 10 albums, it went on to set the benchmark for independent labels around the world with a back catalogue of historic and highly desirable recordings.

As a means of reimagining the music in a contemporary format, 180 Proof Records along with the German-based DJ/producer collective Jazzanova, have recontextualized eleven tracks from the Strata catalogue using a live band of 10 musicians and producers in Berlin.

Whether it’s Post-Bop, Broken Beat, House, or even Hip Hop, there are few bands as versatile and unique as Jazzanova, and this will be the debut live performance of the recording in London.
