Being Black or a Minority with a Successful Career in the Chemical Sciences

Tuesday 14 December 2021

Role models from global majority ethnic backgrounds will narrate their professional journeys, highlighting obstacles and opportunities.

There is an under-representation of certain ethnic groups in academic and senior roles in the UK. With less than 1% of all chemistry academics being black, there is a need to showcase successful scientists in the chemical sciences from the global majority ethnic minority groups.

To make visible some role models from different countries, a pre-conference workshop has been organised for some notable academics to narrate their professional journeys, highlighting obstacles and opportunities to inspire and challenge us on the 14th of December 2021. The Royal Society of Chemistry will also provide pointers on how to develop a successful career in the chemical sciences. The workshop (on 14th Dec) will be followed by a research conference on the 15th of December.
