International Black Chemist Research Conference

Wednesday 15 December 2021

The conference aims to make visible research contributions of academics from global majority ethnic backgrounds in the chemical sciences.

In the UK, less than 1% of all chemistry academics are Black, and just 1.3% of chemistry PhD students are Black. Thus, with such a small pool, there is a need to make visible their research contributions in the chemical sciences. This is made even more important by the need to diversify the curriculum in Higher Education (HE).

We recognise the importance of collaborating with different stakeholders to make a positive contribution to diversifying the curriculum in HE. The Royal Society of Chemistry has sponsored a series of workshops and a research conference, and these have been organised in partnership with academics, students, members of different professional services groups, and a learning science company, McGraw-Hill.
