Learn about the hugely influential BLK Art Group, an artist collective based in the Midlands, whose campaign against racism in the British art world led to the Arts Council’s establishment of Iniva (the Institute of International Visual arts) in 1994 – an arts organisation dedicated to exploring the politics of race.
Iniva’s Librarian, Nicholas Brown, and Programme Coordinator, Laura Castagnini, discuss the organisation’s historical origins, as well as the development of a major monographic exhibition with Keith Piper, founding member of the BLK Art Group. The forthcoming exhibition will be on display at the Bluecoat in Liverpool in October 2016, and will include new work commissioned by the Arts Council Collections for its 70th anniversary celebrations.
