Black History Freedom Walk with Peter Ashan

Description

Book your ticket and join Peter Ashan on a Freedom Walk starting from Leytonstone library to discover East London’s Black history that goes all the way back to the 16th and 17th centuries, when Britain was a colonial power and part of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in Waltham Forest and East London that you probably didn’t know about.

Bio

I am a local historian, born and raised in Waltham Forest. I am an educator at the V&A Museum and a coach with Vallance Community Sports Association.

Growing up, I was surrounded by such a diverse classroom, with people of Asian, African, Afro-Caribbean heritage, everyone. And none of that history was reflected in the history books”.

I have spent much of my life dedicated to uncovering local histories of East London’s Black histories, and the stories of other ethnic minority groups.

I have set up none profit Diversity Workshops in Waltham Forest and take time apart from my job to plan, prepare, and deliver the various inter-active Sunday workshops and walks.
