Tales of the Accidental City by Maïmouna Jallow: Film Screening + Q&A

Friday 22 October 2021

Join us for an exclusive screening of Kenyan film Tales of the Accidental City, followed by a Q&A with the director Maïmouna Jallow.

Tales of the Accidental City is a 90-minute audio play in which four residents of Nairobi accused of various misdemeanors find themselves stuck together in a three-day anger management class. Diana, Jacinda, Louis Njoroge, and Sarah Obama must explain what got them there, and with the help of their quirky counsellor Rose, find a way to heal the wounds inflicted on them by life in the crazy city of Nairobi.

Through the characters, we are invited to explore Nairobi 120 years after its ‘creation’. Through this portrait of Nairobi, the play tells the story of many African cities challenged by population growth, economic disparities and social injustice.

The film screening will be followed by a live Q&A session chaired by University of Southampton-based Lecturer in Global Media Industries, Dr Estrella Sendra with director and actress, Maïmouna Jallow.

The event will broadcast on YouTube Live, but registration is required to access the exclusive URL.

You will receive joining instructions in the confirmation email and in all event reminders.

Ticket holders can also directly access the event on the Online Event page in Eventbrite.
