BBMM2021 ‘Queens Of Sound: Women & Reggae’

Thursday July 22 2021, 6-9pm

Exclusive & rare opportunity to see rarely screened documentary featuring Jamaican female artists, industryites and academic talking reality.

Sandra Krampelhuber‘s 2006 feature length documentary ‘Queens Of Sound’ ^ is still one of the best films that allows female voices to express themselves across various topics within Jamaican reggae and dancehall.

“I felt that it was more than time for a film about Reggae and Dancehall in which the women speak out. Plus I wanted to correct and challenge the one-sided negative image that especially Dancehall music has in mainstream media…” Sandra Krampelhuber

As it’s not available online, this is indeed an exclusive and rare opportunity to watch this ground-breaking documentary featuring dozens of female artists*, industryites and academics discussing issues about women in reggae, music business, faith, sexism and life – topics which will no doubt be developed in the post-screening discussion.

Discussion will be moderated by community activist Nana Asante with all-female** UK and Jamaica special guests, from the artistic and academic communities.
