Talking Copyright: ‘My Boy Lollipop’, ‘Enoch Power’ To ‘Murder She Wrote’

An accessible forum for musicians, producers, songwriters, music fans and music industry and law students, to engage with copyright issues and music industry practice, using reggae songs and recordings. .

Marking British Black Music Month 2020 and a precursor to International Reggae Day UK.

In this online seminar, Kwaku (BBM/BMC founder), Enrico Bonadio (City, University Of London Law School reader) and Kennedy ‘Prezedent’ Mensah (Back 2 Da Future Music Ltd CEO), will respectively use Millie‘s co-written ‘Enoch Power’, Millie’s ‘My Boy Lollipop’ recording, and Lloyd “Gitsy” Willis‘s co-written and co-produced much-sampled ‘Murder She Wrote’ case studies, to discuss original songwriting, covering of songs, sampling and versioning.

The discussion will also highlight copyright basics, music publishing and music industry practice, including the unique way reggae engages with musicking.

If you’re lucky, Enrico and Prezedent may revert to their DJ guise, and spin some tunes to either underscore points made or purely for entertainment.
