Unearthing Southbank Centre: A Poetry Course

13 Jan 2020 Approximate run time: 120 mins

Poet Richard Scott guides you in applying your poetic skills to Southbank Centre’s art and artefacts in a six-session course that takes in our archives, backstage areas and gallery spaces.

The course looks at ways of making art in response to the hidden, the submerged and the historical.

Drawing inspiration from Southbank Centre’s rich cultural history, our place in queer history as the site of Pride in the 1980s, Hayward Gallery’s exhibitions and National Poetry Library’s collection, Scott leads you on writing exercises and helps you to create new work.

Richard Scott’s first book Soho (Faber & Faber) was described by The Poetry School as a ‘debut not bound by allegiance to some generalised category but liberated by joy and clear execution’.

Scott’s poems have appeared in magazines and anthologies including Poetry Review and Poetry London. He teaches poetry at the Faber Academy.
