Nadiya Hussain: Finding My Voice

1 Dec 2019 Approximate run time: 90 mins

Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain celebrates the publication of her brand-new memoir, Finding My Voice, in her own warm, honest and humorous way, in conversation with Emma Freud.

Born to parents who had emigrated to Britain from Bangladesh, Hussain grew up in a Muslim family with five siblings. She entered an arranged marriage aged 20, becoming a wife and mother herself. Hussein suffers with panic disorder and had never been on a train on her own until she travelled to film her first episode of the Great British Bake Off.

‘I was everything – a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother – but I still was nowhere near finding me,’ she reflects.

Join the TV presenter, chef and bestselling author as she considers her roles as mother, Muslim, working woman and celebrity, and questions the barriers which many women must cross to be accepted or heard.

Hussain highlights how, at the core of it all, we are essentially tackling the same issues despite our cultural, social and religious differences.

Emma Freud is Director of Red Nose Day, having started at Comic Relief stuffing envelopes 25 years ago. She was co-creator of the Make Poverty History Campaign, a producer of the Live 7 concerts and was awarded an OBE in 2011.

Freud is also a columnist for BBC Good Food, The Telegraph, and Tatler, a reporter for BBC Radio 4 and a presenter of National Theatre Live. In 2016, she won the Glamour Magazine ‘Columnist Of The Year’ award for her articles on living in New York.

For the last 20 years, she’s script edited or co-produced the films made by Richard Curtis, including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Notting Hill, Love Actually and About Time. She’d quite like a little lie down.

For ages 16+
