Voices of 1981: Archive Display

BCA have delved into there archive collection to explore 1981, a pivotal year in British history. Through a broad selection of materials, from periodicals and newspaper articles to photographs, we explore beyond the media coverage of the Uprisings in Brixton, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool. This mini archive display includes the work of activists, race relations campaigners, and the community leaders who were spearheading education initiatives – we are revisiting narratives of those who lived during this time and the historic events that changed British history.

The Leveller was a British political magazine published from 1976 to 1982. It was collectively produced by an array of radicals, socialists, marxists, feminists, and others of the British left and progressive movements.
