Gain a Queer Perspective on our Collection with resident artist Sadie Lee and her special guests Sarah Jane Moon and Dr Ronx as they discuss portraits which have a personal resonance. Sarah Jane’s portrait of Dr Ronx is exhibited in the BP Portrait Award 2019.
Sarah Jane Moon (b.1982) gained a BA (hons) degree in visual arts theory and curatorial practice at the University of Western Australia and undertook studies at the Heatherley School of Fine Art, London. Moon’s work has been seen internationally in the exhibitions Queer Art(ists) Now (2017, 2018), the Royal Society of Portrait Painters (2011, 2014–16) and the Adam Portraiture Award at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery.
Dr Ronx is an Emergency Medicine Doctor and is known to audiences from CBBC’s Operation Ouch!. A queer, black, androgynous intersectional feminist, Ronx is respected for their active commitment to presenting a positive role model for BAME youth, and especially those from the LGBTQI community.
Queer Perspectives, which has been running since 2007, is a quarterly event which takes place on the first Friday of February, May, August and November. Resident artist Sadie Lee invites guests who identify as LGBTQI to select, discuss and highlight works in the Collection and beyond which have a personal resonance, often teasing out surprising links and hidden histories. Past guests include Ali Smith, Sunil Gupta, David McAlmont, Andrew Logan, Amy Lamé, Richard Dyer, Alan Hollinghurst, Neil Bartlett, Scottee and Bird la Bird.
